The student business organization will open its "Temple of Terror" on Oct. 29-31 at the site of the former Country Store Consignment Center on Isaacs Avenue, across from Kmart. The ticket price of $8 for the first time through the might make some quiver, but the second time through is just $4, said club president Joshua Conley. "People have two options. They can go on two different routes that come together at the end." The cavernous first floor of the defunct general merchandise business will be the scene of a dozen or so interactive -- frightening -- events geared to teens and up, Conley said. The entrance for the "temple" will be on the building's west side. Through the front door, however, the club has created a kid-friendly environment for the younger goblins. There, club members will face paint, play games and color with children while their older family members get their socks scared off, he explained. The kids' section is free. The club will be accepting donations to the March of Dimes Foundation there, and contributions of $5 or more will net the donor a special March of Dimes teddy bear. "And we're going to have a board up with each person's picture and name so people know exactly who they are leaving their kids with," Conley added. "I have three kids myself." Phi Beta Lambda members have focused heavily on safety for the project and utilized nearly all the ground floor of the structure. Action includes a maze and multiple opportunities for getting your scream on. The Temple of Terror will be open 7 p.m. to midnight. Proceeds will help send Phi Beta Lambda members to state and national club competitions and support future activities. Sheila Hagar can be reached at sheilahagar@wwub.com or 526-8322.
