Playing Big Bear High School at Big Bear Middle School in a rare Saturday afternoon game, the Blackhawks could not come up with their first on-field victory in program history, losing 42-0. The shut-out loss broke a string of three consecutive games in which Citrus Valley (1-6) had scored a touchdown. The Blackhawks fell behind early, trailing 28-0 heading into halftime, and simply could not muster enough offense to stage a comeback. All was not lost though for Citrus Valley, as their defense put on impressive performance for head coach Pete Smolin and his staff. Despite playing against a Big Bear team stocked with upperclassmen, the freshmen and sophomore laden Blackhawks managed to play a "very physical game" and had Smolin raving about the intensity he saw on the field. Citrus Valley did manage to pick off three passes, as sophomore linebacker Tim Burroughs, sophomore defensive back Andrew Angulo and sophomore linebacker Zack Perez all tallied interceptions on the day. The loss also ends a streak of four consecutive games in which they Blackhawks had allowed fewer points than the week before, lowering their margin of defeat with each passing game. Citrus Valley will return home next week when they host Murrieta Mesa High School at Redlands High School's Dodge Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. This being their inaugural season and having no graduating classes, the Blackhawks will forego a Homecoming game and instead celebrate the first ever Citrus Valley Carnival on the night of their game against Murrieta Mesa.
