The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved 560 million USD to continue work on an alternate F-35 engine built by General Electric Co. and Rolls-Royce Group Plc.
This approval is also important for TEI as it would produce "blisk spool" (requiring the most developed jet engine production technology), which is an important part of the engine that would be used in manufacturing of F-35 JSF.
Such a deal will provide job opportunities for 240 Turkish aviation design engineers.
Turkey will replace its F-16s with F-35s in time.
TEI was established in 1985 as a joint venture between Turkish Aerospace Industry Inc. (TAI), Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TSKGV), Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK) and General Electric of USA in order to manufacture F-110 engine parts, and assemble engines.
