After watching their second side succumb 18-23 to a well-oiled Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) II in the Mwamba Cup, the big boys were not ready to take another defeat.
Quins defence simply snuffed Impala's open play and their versetile backs in a cagey but exciting match watched by an electric crowd.
They touched gown two tries and three penalties while Impala, who saw their dream of clinching a hat trick go up in smoke managed a penalty in each half.
Impala are fresh from winning the Kenya Cup league after having bagged the Floodlit title last May. " It took a lot of hard work and spirits to accomplish this," said Quins captain Allan Onyango said.
Handled match well
In fact, Quins were more hungry for victory and exhibited strength and character to score the opening try even after their flanker Victor Oduor was sin-binned for infringment towards the end of the first half.
"It was evident the boys were hungry and wanted more. There was a bit of discipline issues when my players tried to adapt to the new referee but that is all about the game," Onyango explained.
Referee Deon Claassen from South Africa handled the match superbly. "We had to dig deep and interestingly it was only after the yellow card that players realised they had a battle at hand," said Onyango.
