Gougou.com, under the aegis of Xunlei, directly competes with Sogou.com, under the wing of Sohu.com Inc. (Nasdaq: SOHU). In the first half of 2009, Sohu said that it would accuse Ku6.com, 56.com, and Xunlei of infringing the copyright of a TV play.
On September 15, Sohu initiated an anti-pirate alliance in cooperation with Joy.cn and Voole.com. Sohu Chief Executive Officer Charles Zhang said on the day that the alliance would claim for compensations of CNY 100 million against Youku.com for pirating 503 video works and keep the rights to claim for its criminal liabilities.
Later, Youku.com said in a statement on September 17 that it had filed the court with a lawsuit against Sohu.
Youku.com accuses Sohu of infringing its copyright and reputation. The video sharing website requires that Sohu should stop its copyright infringing activities and apologize to Youku.com.
