China Taiping Insurance Holdings Co. Ltd. Leads Friday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Declines 1.02%

OLDWICK, N.J., Oct 26, 2009 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- EIHI | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Friday, Oct. 23, at 821.33 (-1.02%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, one rose and 14 declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were China Taiping Insurance Holdings Co. Ltd. (+13.03%) and Prudential plc (+5.15%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Eastern Insurance Holdings (-13.20%) and Atlantic American Corp. (-7.89%).

The European Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 939.91 (+0.12%). Leading the AMBEUR were Prudential PLC (+5.15%) and Old Mutual plc (+2.92%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc (-2.14%) and Hansard Global (-2.02%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1140.76 (-1.07%). Leading the AMBAP were China Taiping Insurance Holdings Co. Ltd. (+13.03%) and Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (+3.23%). Trailing the AMBAP were Aioi Insurance Co. Ltd. (-4.02%) and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Holdings (-3.15%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 1001.02 (-0.10%). Leading the AMBGR were China Taiping Insurance Holdings Co. Ltd. (+13.03%) and Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (+3.23%). Trailing the AMBGR were XL Capital (-4.61%) and Max Capital Group (-4.14%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 1017.29 (-1.41%). Leading the AMBGB were CNinsure Inc. (+0.87%) and Life Partners (+0.64%). Trailing the AMBGB were National Financial Partners (-3.06%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (-2.73%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 644.34 (-0.90%). Leading the AMBGML were Zurich Financial Services AG (+0.50%) and American National Insurance (+0.12%). Trailing the AMBGML were Atlantic American Corp. (-7.89%) and AIG (-6.24%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 1053.04 (-1.24%). Leading the AMBGNL were Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc. (+4.01%) and Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (+3.23%). Trailing the AMBGNL were Eastern Insurance Holdings (-13.20%) and Presidential Life Corp. (-7.81%).

The Global Life Insurance Index (AMBGL) closed at 771.85 (-0.82%). Leading the AMBGL were China Taiping Insurance Holdings Co. Ltd. (+13.03%) and Prudential PLC (+5.15%). Trailing the AMBGL were National Western Life Insurance (-5.89%) and Genworth Financial (-5.80%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 1063.37 (-1.33%). Leading the AMBUPC were Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc. (+4.01%) and United America Indemnity (+2.89%). Trailing the AMBUPC were Eastern Insurance Holdings (-13.20%) and Chubb (-5.86%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 198.76 (-3.01%). Leading the AMBUML were American National Insurance (+0.12%) and American Financial Group (-0.76%). Trailing the AMBUML were Atlantic American Corp. (-7.89%) and American International Group Inc. (-6.24%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 806.21 (-2.97%). Leading the AMBUL were Reinsurance Group of America Inc. (+0.64%) and Investors Heritage Capital Co. (0.00%). Trailing the AMBUL were Presidential Life Corp. (-7.81%) and National Western Life Insurance (-5.89%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 801.51 (-1.90%). Leading the AMBULH were Aetna (+1.76%) and United American Healthcare (+1.03%). Trailing the AMBULH were Presidential Life Corp. (-7.81%) and National Western Life Insurance (-5.89%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 789.52 (-0.57%). Leading the AMBUH were Aetna (+1.76%) and United American Healthcare (+1.03%). Trailing the AMBUH were HealthSpring (-3.84%) and Aflac Inc. (-2.78%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 928.41 (-1.36%). Leading the AMBUB were Life Partners (+0.64%) and InsWeb (0.00%). Trailing the AMBUB were National Financial Partners (-3.06%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (-2.73%).
