PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct 26, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- CNFL | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- U.S. Banker recognized Ellen Alemany, CEO and Chairman of Citizen Financial Group, Inc. and RBS Americas, as one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking. In the magazine's seventh annual ranking, this year's honorees were recognized for excelling despite difficult economic conditions impacting the banking landscape.

U.S. Banker recognized Alemany's success in turning around unprofitable areas of the bank, consolidating branch locations and creating innovative products to strengthen the bank's core operations. According to Alemany, "Citizens received a strong vote of confidence from RBS this year. That faith is enabling us to work every day toward becoming a leading bank in the markets where we choose to operate."

Alemany was instrumental in creating a new student loan product, called the TruFit Student Loan(TM) that helps students bridge the gap between federal loans, scholarships, grants and other tuition assistance. This student loan program offers students a feasible and affordable way to reach their educational goals.

Under her guidance, Citizens Bank created Green$ense(TM), an environmentally-friendly banking program. This green banking solution gives customers an opportunity to help the environment by opting for paperless statements and electronic transfers. Additional benefits include cash back for electronic transactions, which can add up to $120 per year.

Alemany has had an illustrious 33-year career in banking and finance and in August was named to the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list. In March 2007, RBS named Alemany Chairman of Citizens Financial Group and RBS Americas. Prior to joining RBS Americas, she held leading positions at Citigroup and Chase Manhattan Bank, including CEO of Citi Capital, CEO of the Commercial Business Group, and Corporate Bank Head in North America and Europe.
