In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr John Mayaki, the party said, "The soul of the PDP has been battered and their umbrella in tatters and it fascinates one to hear their Leader, Chief Tony Anenih, who led a faction of its famished followership to the NTA pavilion ground on Saturday in Benin City on what they termed 'unity rally' to say that the PDP would take-over government in the next election. It is a pity that wishes are no horses.
He said he was surprise that Anenih, who is never remorseful of the over 9 years of recklessness and wastage of scarce resources that accrued to the state when they held sway "Will criticize the government of Edo state when it does not perform, our criticism will be constructive in the interest of Edo people".
"I would want to ask 'the leaders' and his followership to be patient with the Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole-led government because according to him, they will criticise when the government does not perform, but what about the years of the holocaust and when he dictated who to occupy Osadebey Avenue and determined, if there was vacancy or not?
The statement also added," He said they would be constructive in their criticism, but did not say his party will applaud Oshiomhole's performance. There is no doubt that they are beginning to appreciate the good initiatives of the Governor in redesigning the Benin City master plan and the on-going beautification work. One of them at the rally Senator Ehigie Uzamere, in all humility bought into the redesigning programme of the environment in an interview he granted a national daily.
"What do you expect of a political leader, whose membership dwindles and drifts per second other than to admonish his followers that there is hope even when it is clear that the centre can no longer hold. I think the PDP is a shameless party, having failed the people of the state and yet boast that it will capture power again. This is self-deceit, he said.
"According to him, "The AC had so much injured the PDP politically that they are suffering from nose bleeding. Their ranks have been depleted across the local government areas and senatorial districts. It is, however, expected of a drowning man to cling onto anything in an attempt to survive a potential political onslaught. They aren't seen anything yet.
"While they were on a jamboree in Benin City, the AC was busy harvesting their members in Ogbona, (Edo North) the strong base of their alleged State Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih. Before now, the AC also reaped a sizeable number of the PDP in Edo Central, Chief Anenih's domain and the PDP State Vice Chairman, of the Senatorial zone, Chief Henry Okhoro was one of the big fishes, " he summed up.
