CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Oct 27, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- ISPH | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Bell Leadership Institute is now accepting applications for its 2010 Leader's Roundtable, an advanced leadership development program designed exclusively for CEOs, presidents, and senior executives.

CEOs and other top executives from an impressive roster of U.S. clients including Grady-White Boats, Radio Flyer, Dot Foods, Inspire Pharmaceuticals, and Argonaut Group, Inc., have enthusiastically participated in the Leader's Roundtable in recent years.

The Leader's Roundtable, now in its 26th year, has a transformational effect on the executives who attend it and gives the companies they lead a tremendous advantage in the marketplace. As Jim Knight, recently promoted to Chief Development Officer of Bury + Partners, a national diversified engineering and consulting firm, described it:

"...Simply put, the Leader's Roundtable has changed my life. I have always been successful, but I would have never had the opportunity to reach my potential without Dr. Bell's help. I had been my own worst enemy and didn't even realize it. I also believe that the success our company is achieving today is directly related to our belief and participation in the Bell Leadership programs."

Leaders selected to be a part of next year's Leader's Roundtable will meet 12 days during the course of the year, learning advanced leadership concepts and working together to analyze their own business cases and solve their most pressing professional concerns.

According to the Wall Street Journal, while many companies today are making across-the-board cutbacks, the most forward-thinking continue to invest in developing their leaders ("Despite Cutbacks, Firms Invest in Developing Leaders," February 9, 2009). Companies that don't make this investment all too often find that their most effective leaders jump ship as soon as the job market looks more promising.

The greatest firms understand that during slow times, developing top leaders is essential, because strong, loyal leadership reduces the impact of a recessionary economy and builds a solid foundation for the next economic upturn.

Again in 2010, Dr. Gerald D. Bell, CEO and Founder of Bell Leadership Institute and a professor at UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School, will personally lead the Leader's Roundtable. Each month, he will coach and guide members of the Leader's Roundtable as they plan and build their companies.

First and foremost, Dr. Bell teaches that individuals become effective leaders by understanding themselves, developing their personal strengths, and managing and reducing their weaknesses. It is precisely this knowledge and ability that enables great leaders to ignite others to achieve their highest potential. As he often emphasizes,

"To become an extraordinary leader, you must build your own personality skills. This comes first. You must become the example and your employees will follow. No shortcuts, no magic, no easy formula."

Dennis Barrineau, President of U.S. Greenfiber, is proof that this guiding philosophy pays serious dividends. Here's how he put it:

"The Leader's Roundtable...has had a profound effect on my life. It has opened my eyes to how I can become a better husband, father, son, brother, friend, citizen, and ultimately a better leader. It has also enabled me to see opportunity in others and to help them become better people and leaders."
