The parts are to be used as in-the-field replacements after parts delivered with the vehicles have been worn out. The first Oshkosh all-terrain military trucks arrived in Afghanistan earlier this month, three months after the company was awarded a vehicle contract that could be worth billions of dollars. Pentagon officials have said they could buy 2,800 to 10,000 of the so-called M-ATV trucks for use by the Army and Marine Corps. With spare parts and support services, the orders have so far totaled more than $2.3 billion. Oshkosh plans to build 1,000 of the vehicles per month by December, completing work on the current contract in March, and says it is ahead of the government's schedule. Also Tuesday, Oshkosh said it received a $16 million order for airport fire trucks from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority. The 24 trucks will be shipped to Pakistan by September 2010 and will be stationed at airports throughout the country.
