China does not dump solar products, says SunTech chairman
ZZFNV | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Chinese solar photovoltaic (PV)
companies, including those listed on foreign stock markets, did not
dump solar products on western markets, said that Shi Zhengrong,
chairman and chief executive officer of SunTech Power Holdings
(STP.NYSE).
Shi said that the solar PV companies listed on overseas exchanges
now have 20 to 30 percent of profit margins, making the accusation of
dumping nonsensical.
Solar products makers have to rely on brand names and innovation to
ride out the present overcapacity.
Earlier, Shi called for the Chinese government to include solar
energy as part of the national energy strategy and provide monetary,
policy and financial support for the industry.
Currently, the Chinese solar PV industry is trying to defuse
possible anti-dumping actions from Western countries like Germany and
the United States.
China produced 2,300 MW of solar cells in 2008, with only 50 MW,
or less than 3 percent, absorbed by the domestic market.
