The securities dealer noted that despite China Eastern achieved a better-than-expected performance in the third quarter, it is expected to encounter operational difficulties in the fourth quarter.
If China Eastern has to lower the ticket price due to severe competition, and the operating cost goes up for the rise of oil price in the fourth quarter, it is likely to incur loss as a whole in the fourth quarter, said Guotai Junan.
China Eastern reaped net profit of 23 million yuan in July-September, in comparison with the loss of 2.334 billion yuan in the same period of the previous year.
Its operating turnover in July-September saw a year-on-year rise of 5.51 percent to total 11.402 billion yuan.
The H-share of China Eastern closed at 2.26 Hong Kong dollars Wednesday, down 0.44 percent.
