Toshiba anticipates strong demand for SCiB, primarily for use in battery-powered electric vehicles, and has decided to establish a second production facility for the product in the Kashiwazaki Frontier Park in Kashiwazaki city, Niigata prefecture for a total investment of approximately JPY25bn.
The new facility will have a floor area of approximately 33,000 square metres and construction is scheduled to begin in April 2010, with a completion date of October 2010.AThe initial capacity of 500,000 cells per month is expected to increase in fiscal year 2011. A Toshiba aims to achieve net sales of JPY200bn from the SCiB business by fiscal year 2015. A (USD1=JPY90.99)
