The public is invited to take sensitive materials such as credit cards, check stubs, receipts and out-of-date documents to the event to be destroyed in Shred It's shredder.
Shredding such documents can help protect against identity theft, a crime that affects more than 9 million Americans each year.
Debra Lee, director of education for CCCS, said, "With the prevalence of identity theft today, it is important to shred unnecessary documents to better protect yourself from falling victim to this crime.
"We are proud to be a part of the second annual Free Community Shred Day with City National and Shred It to help raise awareness of identity theft and to offer the service to the community for free."
Shred It will shred for free up to three boxes of or five shopping bags of materials per household.
All three organizations stand ready to help consumers prevent ID theft or to help those who have become a victim to recover.
