The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday a study by d-Con, a rodent control product maker owned by the British firm Reckitt Benckiser Inc., indicates Atlanta joined the list of Top 10 U.S. cities at risk for rodent infestation this year.
"Atlanta's high ranking in this latest evaluation stems from greater urban areas of poverty, a very high foreclosure rate -- nearly five times the national survey average -- and a much lower city spend(ing) on structures and highways," researcher Bruce Colvin said.
The other cities on the list are Boston, Chicago, Houston, Louisville, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Milwaukee and Detroit.
The Journal-Constitution said researchers determine the top cities at risk for rodent infestation by analyzing pest control sales, infrastructure budgeting, climate and other factors.
Those factors were researched along with U.S. Census unemployment and foreclosure filings data from those cities.
