The incidents occurred 30 minutes apart Saturday morning, Sterling Heights police said.
They said the man entered the Sterling Heights store at Metro Parkway and Mound about 8:30 a.m. and said "trick or treat" before telling the clerk to get a carton of Newport 100 cigarettes. The clerk put the cigarettes in a bag and the robber said, "You know what this is about. Give me the money" as he kept his left hand in the pocket of his hoodie, police said.
They said the clerk gave him the money in the register and the robber then demanded the change. He told the clerk to go into the back room and left the store.
A man with the same description robbed the 7-Eleven at 12 Mile and Dequindre about 30 minutes earlier, police said.
Police said the robber was black, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 200 pounds and bald, wearing the mask and black clothing.
