BRIEF: UMB Financial's Peter deSilva to lead Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce

Oct 29, 2009 (The Kansas City Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- UMBF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Peter deSilva, president and chief operating officer of UMB Financial Corp., will become chairman of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 1. DeSilva, the chairman and CEO of UMB Bank, succeeds Anne St. Peter, founder of Global Prairie. DeSilva also is co-chairman of the search committee to fill the chamber's presidency. Pete Levi, who has held that full-time position for 19 years, will retire at the end of this year.

Next in line to be chamber chairman in 2010 will be first vice chairman Greg M. Graves, chairman and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. E. Frank Ellis, chairman and CEO of Swope Community Enterprises, becomes second vice chairman, and William H. Downey, president and chief operating officer of KCP&L, becomes vice chairman and treasurer.

The chamber board this week approved deSilva's proposed 2010 strategic plan which centers on creating jobs and economic growth.
