The year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter increases in total revenues were mainly thanks to the strong performance of its three major clients for the telecom business, Asiainfo explained in its quarterly financial report.
Non-GAAP net revenues, in accord with the previous anticipation, arrived at USD 60.9 million, growing 42.4% from the third quarter of 2008 and 14.1% from the second quarter of 2009.
Net income widened to USD 9.1 million, compared with USD 6.1 million in July-September 2008 and USD 7.2 million in April-June 2009. Basic earnings per share stood at USD 0.2, higher than USD 0.13 in the period last year and USD 0.16 in the previous quarter.
Non-GAAP net income was USD 13 million, rising 71.6% from USD 7.6 million in Q3 2008 and 14% from USD 11.4 million in Q2 2009. Non-GAAP basic earnings per share increased to USD 0.29 from USD 0.16 in Q3 2008 and USD 0.26 in Q2 2009.
Gross margin was 54.6%, higher than 51.8% in Q3 2008 and 49.1% in Q2 2009. The year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter growths in gross margin were mainly because of the distribution of high-profitability software solutions and services.
Operating expenses amounted to USD 24.5 million, ascending 36.9% year on year and 9.5% quarter on quarter. In detail, sales and marketing expenses reached USD 11.2 million, rising 17.4% year on year and 13% quarter on quarter. General and administrative expenses hit USD 3.8 million, hiking 81% year on year and 3.3% quarter on quarter. Research and development expenses touched USD 10.8 million, jumping 73.4% year on year and 23.3% quarter on quarter.
By September 30, 2009, the company's cash, cash equivalents, as well as restricted cash had totaled USD 195.8 million. Moreover, its short-term investments had added up to USD 40 million.
Looking ahead, the Beijing-headquartered telecom software solution provider forecasts that its non-GAAP net revenues for the fourth quarter of the year will range between USD 70 million and USD 72 million, leaping 37% to 40% year on year. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations will be USD 0.28 to USD 0.29, surging 460% to 480% year on year.
