The Kyoto-based game creator now forecasts 230 billion yen in group net profit for the current fiscal year to next March 31, down 17.6 percent from the previous year, and 370 billion yen in operating profit, down 33.4 percent. Sales are projected to drop 18.4 percent to 1.5 trillion yen.
Corresponding figures in Nintendo's projection released in May were 300 billion, 490 billion and 1.8 trillion yen.
In the first six months of fiscal 2009, Nintendo booked a net profit of 69.49 billion yen, down 52.0 percent from a year earlier, and an operating profit of 104.36 billion yen, down 58.6 percent, on a 34.5 percent fall in sales to 548.06 billion yen.
The company attributed the weaker-than-expected results in the fiscal first half to slowed sales of its Wii and DS game consoles due to a lack of popular games that stimulated demand for the machines.
It also blamed the sales and profit falls on the yen's appreciation and a cut in the price of the Wii.
Nintendo sold 11.7 million machines worldwide in the DS series in the six-month period, bringing cumulative sales to 113.4 million units.
About 5.75 million Wii units were sold, bringing accumulated sales to 56.14 million.
