Oct 29, 2009 (Grand Forks Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- ACAT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- About 3,000 Arctic Cat snowmobiles have been recalled because the engines on the vehicles may leak oil and fuel and catch fire, posing a risk of burn injuries, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

Arctic Cat Inc., based in Thief River Falls, said it has received 33 reports of oil leaks, including eight incidents in which the engines on snowmobiles caught fire. No injuries have been reported.

The problems occur when oil leaks into the engine compartment, officials said. Also, the fuel tanks may come into contact with the engine, which poses a threat of the tank wearing through and causing fuel leaks, the CPSC recall notice states.

The following Model Year 2009 Arctic Cat vehicles are involved in the recall are the Z1 Turbo, Z1 Turbo Sno Pro and TZ1 Turbo model snowmobiles

The model name and number are displayed on the side of vehicle and in the registration materials/owner's manual. The recalled snowmobiles were sold at Arctic Cat dealerships nationwide from June 2008 through July 2009 for between $12,500 and $14,300. They were manufactured in the United States.

Consumers should stop using the recalled Arctic Cat snowmobiles immediately and contact their local Arctic Cat snowmobile dealer to schedule a free repair, the company and CPSC said. Registered owners of vehicles covered by the recall have been directly notified about this recall by mail.
