This was in comparison with a net income of USD223m or USD0.52 per share in the third quarter of the prior year.
Third-quarter 2009 operating profit was USD259m, as compared with USD297m in the prior-year quarter.
Total revenues for the quarter were USD2.6bn, down by 4% as compared with USD2.64bn in the third quarter of 2008.
The company also said that its long-term outlook was of continued mid-single-digit local-currency revenue growth; operating margin improving to mid-teens upon completion of 2005 and 2009 restructuring programmes.
