"Even DP members of Parliament who are getting reasonable amounts of money have failed to contribute something to support party activities. I am almost running most of the party activities from my personal account," said Mr Ssebaana.
Daily Monitor has reliably learnt that key DP's foreign financiers recently stopped the funding citing perennial infighting in the party. Some of the funders who have reportedly stopped supporting the party include; Hoyre Norwegian Centre for Democratic Support and Westminster Foundation for Democracy of UK. Only Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Germany, is still supporting the party but on small scale.
This could explain why the party's Delegates Conference slated for next month has been postponed thrice since December last year. Mr Ssebaana said MPs and local council leaders, who got their respective offices on the party ticket, are supposed to remit a certain portion of their salary to the party treasury which they have defiantly objected.
"During our days in Parliament, we used to contribute at least Sh100, 000 each and we would collect about Shs4million every month to run the party secretariat which is no longer the case today," Mr Ssebaana said. An MP takes homes between Shs7milliom-14million every month while division and district chairpersons bag at least Shs 2 million every month. The party has nine MPs.
