Meijer, Walmart vie for low prices
Looks as if Meijer and Walmart already are competing for your holiday shopping dollars. Both recently issued news releases announcing price cuts:
--Walmart says it will offer "weekly deep savings events" and new "everyday low prices" on thousands of items through the holiday season. For example, rolls of 73 percent lean ground beef are now $1.25 a pound, a 26 percent savings, and Bakugan traps (toys) are $5, a 36 percent savings.
--Meijer is changing its approach to sale items with three different categories: Everyday Best Price, Sale and Price Drop.
Everyday Best Price products have been dramatically reduced in price, according to Meijer's news release. Sale items will be reduced in price for a limited time.
More items will be added to the Price Drop category, which includes thousands of items that are promotions or special deals from the suppliers. These Price Drop items will be reduced in price for a longer time than Sale items.
