Miami office shareholder Carl A. Fornaris, who is co-chair of the firm's National Financial Institutions Group, West Palm Beach office shareholder Shannon Bothwell, Miami technology director Jose Hernandez, and administrative assistant Silkys Alvarez co-captained the Greenberg Traurig cycling team that raised over $11,000, the second-highest fundraising total in the 2009 Southeast Florida Tour de Cure to benefit the ADA. Their team was honored at the Tour de Cure Corporate Breakfast, held on the campus of Nova Southeastern University.
Tour de Cure is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 43 states nationwide. Last year, more than 40,000 cyclists in 80 tour events raised nearly $17 million to support the ADA. The second annual Southeast Florida Tour de Cure will be held on March 7, 2010 at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines.
"Raising funds is critical to fulfilling the mission of the American Diabetes Association," said Fornaris, who will co-captain the GT team again in 2010. "We have an ambitious goal of raising over $15,000 for next year's race. Contributions support diabetes research, community programs, and public awareness of a disease that directly affects almost 24 million Americans."
