If approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission, Laclede customers would pay 66 cents per therm for natural gas compared with 83 cents a therm last winter.
The price of natural gas makes up about 65 percent to 75 percent of a total gas bill, according to the PSC. The rest reflects the cost of delivering the fuel, the utility's profit and taxes.
St. Louis-based Laclede said bills for typical residential customer bills would fall $24 per month compared with last winter if the new gas rate is approved.
