Both Valley View and Scranton Prep were in need of a spark during a scoreless first 12 1/2 minutes.
Scranton Prep got exactly that from its special teams.
Forcing a Valley View punt on a fourth-and-24, a group of surging linemen blocked the kick, setting up an offensive possession deep in Cougar territory.
Taking advantage three plays later, Pachucy launched a 25-yard strike to freshman Karlon Quiller for a 7-0 lead heading into halftime.
Pachucy finished 12-for-12 through the air for 106 yards.
"Tonight was a great job by everyone, the line blocked and my receivers caught everything," Pachucy said. "It feels good to play that well, but even better to get the win."
Opening the second half, both teams were forced to punt on their opening possessions.
Starting its second drive, Scranton Prep started to mix in the running game led by Mariotti.
However, the drive stalled as kicker Conor McAliney missed a 34-yard field goal attempt.
After the missed field goal, the Cavaliers defense forced another three-and-out giving the offense another shot at the end zone.
Following converting a third-and-inches, Mariotti took a pitch on the next play to the left behind lineman Kevin Reihner for a 24-yard sprint to the end zone sealing the game for the Cavaliers.
"Our quarterback really loosened things up for me tonight, it made it a lot easier to run," said Mariotti who finished with 110 yards on 21 carries.
Valley View was unable to get anything going offensively in the second half. Three of its drives were three-and-out and two others were halted on fourth downs.
"Scranton Prep did a good job offensively and defensively," Valley View coach George Howanitz said. "Our kids are playing hard but we just can't get the big play we're looking for."
