The design firm's principals have founded Motozuma as a way to save money for future auto purchases. An LLC separate from Real Art, the new firm is aimed at first-time and new car buyers, but anyone can create a Motozuma profile for free.
Once a profile is in place, relatives and friends can contribute to a user's car fund, helping build a down payment for the next purchase. Payments can be tied to birthdays or holidays, and the site accepts credit cards.
One you're ready to buy a vehicle, you and an auto dealer may log on to the site, enter a user's security information and the funds transfer through an automated electronic clearing house.
Hyundai is the site's first "manufacturer match" partner, offering to match the money in a user's account up to $500 -- but only toward the purchase of a new Hyundai model.
"Saving money and having a down payment to purchase the car is more important than ever," said Chris Wire, chief executive of Real Art and the fledgling Motozuma.
Wire's own Motozuma profile aims for a new Hyundai Genesis. On Friday afternoon, he had $270 set aside for a down payment -- with half of that, $135, courtesy of Hyundai.
Motozuma is working to partner with other auto companies as well. "We've been in discussions with basically every auto manufacturer," Wire said.
Users can save for any vehicle, new or used -- or any purchase at all, for that matter.
Users may withdraw and close their accounts at any time, and they will receive a check in the mail. Said Wire, "It's your money, not ours."
