The proposed alliance would allow the airlines to provide an improved service and develop future services and routes through collaborating on route and product planning, codesharing on their networks and extending frequent flyer programme benefits and lounge access to customers of both carriers, according to Virgin Blue.
The cooperation would enable Delta and Virgin Blue to offer seamless integrated travel between cities throughout the Australian and US domestic markets.
Delta and Virgin Blue will continue to cooperate with the ACCC as part of the authorisation process and are also currently awaiting a decision from the US Department of Transportation in order to proceed with the joint venture.
