The Woodlands-based company reported net income of $200 million, 40 cents per share, down from $2.2 billion, $4.58 per share, in the July-September period a year ago.
Special items boosted earnings by $251 million.
The company now predicts it will produce 220 million barrels of oil equivalent this year, up 7 percent from 2008.
