Huawei to Deploy Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing Transport Solution for Mediacom in North America

Nov 04, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- MCCC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Huawei, a developer of telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced it was recently selected by Mediacom Communications, a cable operator focused on serving the smaller cities and towns in the United States, to deploy Next-Generation Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (NG-DWDM) transport across over 4000km of Mediacom's backbone network through the states of Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota.

Under the agreement, Huawei said it will provide Mediacom with its OSN6800A NG-WDM platform utilizing the latest in optical technologies with multi-degree ROADM, tunable optics, and OTN cross-connects. The network solution will support 10/40G and future 100G wavelengths to deliver high bandwidth services.

"Huawei's dedicated support resources, understanding of our network requirements and ability to meet our aggressive project delivery dates were key factors in selecting them as our partner for this project," said Greg Euker, Director of IP Networks, Mediacom. "Huawei's technology and solutions allowed us to migrate to a platform and deliver services to meet the growing demands of our business and residential customers."

"We are committed to delivering a quality network to Mediacom and continuously supporting our customers with products and services."

As part of Huawei's All-IP convergence strategy, the OSN6800 is a manageable WDM transport platform based on OTN (Optical Transport Network) and ASON (Automatically Switched Optical Network) architecture. According to Huawei, the OSN6800 has been deployed in the networks of operators in Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin American.
