Jeffrey E. Mikell, 36, of the 1500 block of South Valley Hill Road, is charged with aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint.
On Oct. 15, allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol, he held the 25-year-old Richmond woman in his apartment against her will, taking away her cell phone and beating her continually, according to the sheriff's department. His apartment is atop a detached barn on his father's property in Bull Valley, the sheriff's office said.
Mikell, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds, released the woman Oct. 19, when police said he and his father drove her home. She then reported the incident to her neighbor, who took her to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, police said.
The woman, with bruises on her head, face and limbs, told nurses she blacked out several times and at one point locked herself in the bathroom trying to escape, police said. Mikell kicked in the door and continued beating her, police said.
Mikell's next court date is Nov. 24.
