According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects B-series pickup trucks from model year 1995 to 1997 as well as from model year 2001 to 2003 that are equipped with cruise control deactivation switch or antilock-brake system manufactured by Texas Instruments.
The cruise control switch in the recalled vehicles may deteriorate over time and could possibly develop a leak, which could make the switch to overheat and burn, resulting in an engine fire.
The recalled trucks were manufactured at Ford Motor Company's Twin Cities Assembly Plant in St Paul, Minnesota.
Beginning November 13, 2009, the company intends to inform owners of the recalled vehicles to bring their vehicles to a dealer. The dealers will install a universal fused jumper harness on the cruise control switch free of charge.
