The November contract settled $1.20 per 1,000 board feet higher at $188.30. January ended $0.60 higher at $210.50. March, which did not trade, closed $0.30 lower at $227.60.
Prices may have ended mixed, but only two contracts traded a handful of times. Estimated volume for the November contract was 16, and for January it rose to 51.
The Globex market is a little more active, but prices also are directionless amid light spread trading--where two contract months are traded simultaneously.
Cash markets also were lightly traded, leaving price quotes nominally unchanged for many products, traders said.
The November/January spread traded seven times in the pit at $23 with January carrying the premium to November. The spread closed at $22.280.
As of 1455 EST, the November/January spread had traded 36 times in the Globex market from $21.50 to $23.20, premium January, with the last at $22.40.
The November/March spread traded 47 times in the Globex market from $39.90 to $40.50, premium March, with the last at $40.20.
The January/March spread traded 18 times in the Globex market from $17.10 to $18.20, premium March, with the last at $17.70.
Chart action for the most-active January contract showed a lower high and a lower low, indicating a general lack of desire to take the market higher.
Dow Jones Newswires published a price for SPF 2x4s at $196 to $202, unchanged from Tuesday.
