With all 23 precincts reporting, Measure H passed with 75 percent of the vote, something district officials were ecstatic about. The measure required a two-thirds majority to pass. Measure H asked voters in the Walnut Creek School District to approve an $82 per year parcel tax that had no expiration date. The tax brings in $1.2 million a year for the district and was set to expire in 2011. In putting the measure on the ballot before the tax was set to end, district leaders said they wanted a constant source of funding they could count on. In an e-mail sent out to parents and community members early this morning, Superintendent Patty Wool thanked those who helped run the Measure H campaign and called the results amazing. "I am proud of the supportive community and the energy and passion for children that is at the forefront in this district," wrote Wool. "Thank you again for supporting students and their education. Yahoo! Yippee!!!" If the parcel tax were eliminated, it would have equated to 16 teachers being lost -- about the size of an elementary school staff. The parcel tax helps to keep class sizes smaller, classroom computers and technology up-to-date, helps fund school libraries and pay for teachers.
