Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, Nov. 5

Nov 05, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- PSKXF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- MANILA -- Philippine stocks closed 1.27 percent higher on Thursday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index rose by 36. 88 points to 2,944.51 while the all-share index went up by 19.93 points or 1.09 percent to 1,846.71.

The trade volume reached 2.53 billion shares worth 4.16 billion pesos (87.58 million U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- The New Zealand sharemarket drifted down on Thursday after weak employment data caused investors to question the strength of the recovery. The stock market closed 0.70 percent lower on Thursday with the benchmark NZSX-50 down 22.2 points at 3144.51, and a turnover of 57.52 million NZ dollars (41.39 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Vietnam's stock market index, VN-Index, closed at 555. 54 points on Thursday, up 18.01 points, or 3.35 percent, against the previous trading day.

A total of 57.33 million shares worth 2.51 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (140.51 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.

SEOUL -- Seoul stocks ended lower Thursday on liquidity jitters. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) plunged 27. 69 points, or 1.75 percent, to 1,552.24.

The volume was light at 201.3 million shares worth 3.3 trillion won (2.8 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday with the key Nikkei index down 1.29 percent to close at a one-month low. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average shed 126.87 points to 9,717.44. The broader Topix index lost 6.31 points, or 0.72 percent, to 874.96.

Trading volume on the main section expanded to 1,936.71 million shares from 1,684.16 million Wednesday.

On the First Section, declining share beat advancing issues 1, 110 to 437.

SHENZHEN -- The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 12,901.70 points Thursday, down 29.51 points, or 0.23 percent, from the previous close.

Total turnover was 98.63 billion yuan (14.44 billion U.S. dollars).

SHANGHAI -- China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 3,155.05 points Thursday, up 0. 85 percent, or 26.52 points, from the previous close.

Total turnover was 155.33 billion yuan (22.74 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks fell by 135.69 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 21,479.08 on Thursday.

Turnover totaled 60.77 billion HK dollars (7.79 billion U.S. dollars), compared with Wednesday's 60.06 billion HK dollars (7.7 billion U.S. dollars).

TAIPEI -- Share prices on the Taiwan Stock Exchange ended lower Thursday, with the weighted index shedding 49.58 points, or 0.66 percent, at 7,417.46.

The key barometer opened little changed at 7,471.61 and moved between 7,481.58 and 7,412.74 during the day's trading, with 3.19 billion shares changing hands on a total turnover of 86.93 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.67 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- The shares prices in Singapore fell 19.29 points or 0.73 percent on Thursday with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) closing at 2,629.35 points.

The overall volume stood at 1.41 billion shares worth 1.08 billion Singapore dollars (about 0.77 billion U.S. dollars).

COLOMBO -- Share prices on the Colombo Stock Exchange closed lower on Thursday, with the key Colombo All Share Price Index decreasing by 47.88 points or 1.65 percent to close at 2,854.82 points.

The highly capitalized Milanka Price Index also decreased by 34. 33 points or 1.06 percent to close at 3,207.73 points.

A total turnover of 940.85 million rupees (about 8.11 million U. S. dollars) was recorded during the day with a volume of 27.10 million shares being traded.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's main bourse -- Dhaka Stock Exchange All Shares Price Index (DSI), the benchmark index, closed at 2,858.51 points on Thursday, up 9.87 points or 0.35 percent from Wednesday' s finish.

The total turnover came down to around 8.45 billion taka (about 120.74 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday from around 9.76 billion taka (about 139.40 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysia stock market ended mixed here on Thursday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,253.96, up 0.01 percent, and the Emas was at 8,388.39, down 7.51 points or 0.09 percent.

Turnover increased to 1.52 billion shares valued at 1.41 billion ringgit Malaysia (411.80 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- The Indian stock benchmark Sensex closed higher Thursday at 16,063.90 points, up 151.77 points or 0.95 percent from the previous closing Wednesday.

The total turnover was 440 million U.S. dollars.

----

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 4.642 points, or 0. 20 percent, to 2,367.214 points on Thursday.

As many as 57,640 transactions were booked Thursday at a volume of 3.250 million copies of shares worth 2.779 trillion rupiah ( about 292.2 million U.S. dollars).
