GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer launch HIV joint venture

Tuesday the launch of a new specialist HIV company in partnership with
pharmaceutical group Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE).
GSK and Pfizer first said that they had agreed to form a new specialist
HIV company in April 2009 and the transaction was completed on 30
October.
The new joint venture, called ViiV Healthcare, will be 85% controlled
by GSK and 15% by Pfizer.
ViiV Healthcare has 10 medicines currently available including
therapies such as Epzicom/Kivexa (abacavir sulfate+lamivudine) and
Selzentry/Celsentri (maraviroc).
These available treatments generated sales of approximately GBP1.6bn in
2008.
