Nikon also incurred a group operating loss of 19.52 billion yen, compared with a profit of 54.07 billion yen a year earlier, on sales of 368.09 billion yen, down 24.4 percent from a year earlier.
The company said its digital camera business was relatively stable, although earnings in the business were hurt by a stronger yen.
For the full business year through March, Nikon is projecting a group net loss of 21 billion yen and an operating loss of 18 billion yen on sales of 760 billion yen, down 13.6 percent.
