The company, affiliated with silver miner Hochschild Mining PLC (HOC.LN), said about 300 persons invaded its Azuca exploration camp on Oct. 19, egged on by a person who says, among other things, that the project is contaminating the environment.
The company said in a published statement that it hasn't started any mining yet and that the invasion isn't tied to any real conflict over the environment. It added that it has needed permits to develop the property.
Peru, the world's largest silver producer, has been the scene of a number of confrontations between communities and mining companies in recent years.
