The company earlier had narrowed its search to four sites, including ones in Kansas City, Mo., Shelbyville, Ind., Shelbyville, Ky., or Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The company eliminated the Kansas City site as a possibility several weeks ago.
Company spokesman Bob Klein said in a news release that company representatives met this week with Kentucky officials to "further explore plans and options."
"At the same time, we remain focused on the feasibility of remaining in York," he said. "A joint company union-management task force has developed a plan to restructure the York operations which provides a viable path to competitiveness, pending the ratification of a new contract that aligns with restructured operations."
The company is considering relocating the Springettsbury Township production plant, its largest, saying the use of work force and the facilities are inefficient. It's expected to make a decision by the end of the year.
The company and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175, which represents 2,100 union workers at the plant, are currently in contract negotiations.
Harley has said a restructuring of the York facility and of labor rules would be necessary to keep the plant open. And the union contract is expected to weigh heavily in the Milwaukee-based company's decision whether to stay in
York.
The company has said it will announce its decision after the contract is passed, or between Dec. 1 and Dec. 31.
