Entergy launches Web site to entice businesses
ETR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Economic development officials in Southeast Texas, like others around the state and the nation, continually try to attract new businesses.
Entergy Texas Inc. has decided to lend a hand -- and possibly attract new customers of its own -- by launching a Web site specifically designed to help companies find commercial and industrial real estate in the region.
Representatives of the utility met with area economic development officials and journalists at the company's Edison Plaza offices in downtown Beaumont Wednesday to give them a peek at the new site, Texas Site Selection Center (www.TxSiteSelection.com).
"Economic development has been at the core of Entergy's mission for over 20 years," said Michael Barnhill, director of Entergy's economic development and real estate division based in The Woodlands.
"Our mission is to help our communities grow and prosper. Today, we're unveiling a new tool that is going to help them grown and prosper," Barnhill said.
He said the Web site would help site selectors -- the people companies use to choose locations for their headquarters or other projects -- compare important data about particular locations, including labor demographics.
The Web site, which Barnhill said is the "most comprehensive" for the region, includes information for the 25 Texas counties in the company's service area, which stretches from Orange County on the Louisiana border west to Milam County.
The Web site uses sophisticated geographical information systems (or GIS) technology that can apply the data to maps, and also provides high-altitude and low-altitude photographic views of particular sites.
