Residents living in a section of Freeport's Velasco Heights neighborhood having been staying in motels at company expense since Oct. 27 as crews began excavating the area around the pipeline leak.
Crews will continue doing repair work over the next couple of weeks but company officials said there have been no emissions of the chemical toluene diisocyanate, known as TDI, in the area where the families were living.
TDI, a major ingredient in polyurethane foam, is used primarily in bedding, furniture and car seats. The chemical is a toxic, flammable substance that irritates the lungs, skin and eyes.
The residents may stay in the hotels until check-out on Friday and use any remaining expense vouchers they received due to the forced relocation, officials said.
Freeport police will continue patrolling the neighborhood as the residents return to their homes, officials said.
