The Hornets continued their dominance of Liberty and trounced the visiting Eagles 9-0 in Orange to host a Region II semifinal game with Monticello Thursday.
Orange got four first-half goals Tuesday and added five more in the second half, while holding the Eagles at bay. Liberty never even attempted a shot on goal, while the Hornets fired 19.
Olivia Newman tallied four goals on the night to lead Orange. Grace Newman, Carrie Jacobs, Racheal Gardner, Naomi Hynes and Elizabeth Higginbotham all found the goal for the Hornets.
Gardner added four assists and Annie Heyl and Ellie Jeanes each added one.
The Hornets improved to 12-5 overall with Tuesday's win and host Monticello at 4:30 Thursday behind Prospect Heights Middle School.
Monticello advanced after beating Kettle Run 2-1 Tuesday night
During the regular season, the Hornets beat Monticello 1-0 in overtime earlier in the season, but fell to the Mustangs 2-0 at home in their regular season finale.
The Hornets advanced to the Region II tournament despite a disappointing loss in Thursday's Jefferson District final.
Facing a Western Albemarle team that had beaten the Hornets twice already this season, Orange could muster little offense and fell 2-0.
While the Hornets could take little consolation about their play in the Jefferson District title game, they still earned a Region II Tournament home game Tuesday against Liberty.
The Hornets trounced the Eagles twice earlier this season, 6-0 and 5-0.
Meanwhile, a handful of Hornets were recognized last week for their outstanding season.
Hornet coach Tricia Grabeel was honored as the Jefferson District coach of the year and Orange's Lauren Seal was a first-team all-district selection and named the district's offensive player of the year.
Joining Seal on the all-district first team were: Kayla Hooper, Carrie Jacobs and Olivia Newman.
Hornets named to the second team included Erica Elford, Racheal Gardner, Annie Heyl and Ellie Jeanes. Goalie Sarah Edmondson was an honorable mention.
