The company has reported that sales for October 2009 increased 14% to $557 million from $490 million for October 2008.
For the third quarter ended October 31, 2009, sales were $1.74 billion, a 12% increase, compared to $1.55 billion for the same period of 2008. Comparable store sales for the third quarter ended October 31, 2009 increased 8% on top of flat same store sales for the same period of 2008.
For the first nine months ended October 31, 2009, sales were $5.2 billion, a 10% increase, compared to $4.75 billion for the corresponding period of 2008. Ross Stores has reported that comparable store sales increased 5% for the first nine months ended October 31, 2009, compared to a 3% gain for the same period of 2008.
Michael Balmuth, vice chairman, president and CEO of Ross Stores, said: "We are very pleased with our October and third quarter performance, as both sales and margins were well ahead of our expectations. Merchandise and geographic sales trends during the month were relatively broad-based."
