NANCHANG, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Prolonged drought has affected 1,279,000 people in east China's Jiangxi and Fujian provinces.

More than 990,000 people in Jiangxi are short of drinking water, said Sun Xiaoshan, deputy director of the provincial flood control and drought relief office, on Friday.

* China hopes APEC summit conducive to global economic recovery BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- China hoped the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Singapore would help boost global economic recovery, a Chinese Foreign Ministry official said here Friday.

"China hopes concrete cooperation plan could be laid out during the summit to help the world out of the international financial crisis and resume economic growth," Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei said at a press briefing.
