Time Warner Cable has expanded the scope of its coverage to include the entire state, according to Melissa Buscher, director of media relations for the Carolina Region.
"We said this year we were going to pick the most competitive games," Buscher wrote in a prepared statement. "This week it's (Matthews) Butler and Independence in Charlottte, the number one and two teams in the state and both teams are among the top 50 in the country."
Buscher added that while the Terry Sanford-Britt game will decide the Mid-South Conference title and is without doubt an important contest, the cable network only has the resources to cover one game this week.
Fans are reminded they still have time today and Friday to purchase advance tickets for the Britt-Terry Sanford game. Tickets are on sale at the office at Jack Britt today from 12-2 p.m. and 3:30 to 4 p.m., and again Friday from 12-2 p.m.
Tickets are $6, the same price as at the game Friday.
The N.C. High School Athletic Association will hold its seventh annual invitational cheerleading championships Saturday at the Raleigh Convention Center.
A record 116 teams are entered to compete in this year's championships, with competition scheduled in 10 categories. The doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the action begins at 9 a.m.
The top award in the championship is the Carolina Cup, which goes to the team that earns the highest score among all the varsity teams competing.
Westover fell out of the Associated Press state 3-A football poll just one week after making its first appearance in the rankings. The Wolverines lost to Gray's Creek, 31-28, last Friday night.
The Bears just missed being ranked this week. They earned 10 points to finish just behind Kannapolis Brown, which took the No. 10 ranking and replaced Westover.
Jack Britt and East Bladen remain the only Cape Fear region teams ranked in the AP polls this week. Britt continued to stand at No. 3 in the 4-A poll. East Bladen is still No. 6 in the 2-A poll.
