The union will have flight attendants on some flights wear red buttons to show that the flight would not have operated if the union really was on strike.
The union is attempting to step up pressure in its contract talks that began in mid-2008.
President Laura Glading said the union wants a contract by January or for the National Mediation Board to allow the union to strike.
"We pledge that we will not disrupt service for our passengers during the upcoming holiday season," Glading said. "After January, it remains to be seen."
