The Attorney General's office began an investigation of the company in 2006 after numerous violations were found in the company's underground fuel storage tanks. The violations included a station at 30245 Agoura Road in Agoura Hills, where hazardous materials were found in a containment area. The station also didn't properly conduct testing and monitoring. "Shell Oil Company disregarded the state's underground fuel storage and hazardous waste laws, committing hundreds of environmental violations at its gasoline stations across California," Brown said in a statement. The settlement money will be split among various state and local government offices. To see more of the Ventura County Star, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.venturacountystar.com.
