North Bangor Fire Chief Fred Farleigh said single-story house at 2907 Valley View Road, which is Route 191, was fully ablaze at 4:45 a.m. when fire companies were dispatched.
"It was already collapsed by the time firefighters arrived," he said.
Farleigh said he initially was concerned that the wind might spread the fire across trees and brush to neighboring homes, but the blaze burned only a few trees and was contained.
North Bangor, Roseto, Upper Mount Bethel and Portland firefighters were on the scene. Tankers came in from Washington, Stroud and Lower Mount Bethel townships.
Because the house was distant from a water supply, firefighters set up a tanker shuttle to keep the water flowing. The fire was out by 6:30 a.m., and no one was injured.
Farleigh said he didn't know what started the fire. Trooper Michael Book, the fire marshal at state police Bethlehem barracks, is investigating.
