Silveira made nine tackles (five for losses), recovered a fumble and returned an interception 40 yards for a score, all in the first half of MC's 46-0 victory over host San Rafael.
"This was a great win for us, a great way to get momentum going into our last game of the year and we played well. We did exactly what we came here to do." Silveira said after.
The game started fortuitously for the Wildcats (8-1, 6-0 MCAL), who clinched at least a tie for the league title. On the game's first possession San Rafael (2-8, 0-7) had the ball on their own 33-yard line. But the slick grass, a wet ball, penalties and a smothering MC defense forced the Bulldogs into a fourth-and-27 punt in the shadow of their goal post. Giovanny Cruz was back waiting for the snap, but it shot to his right and into the end zone. Cruz recovered behind the goal line, resulting in a safety -- and all the points MC would need.
After the ensuing kickoff, MC immediately handed off to Adams who hit the hole with a burst taking it 70 yards for the score.
"Our team all comes out fired up," Adams said. "I mean I got all those yards by hard work by me, but it's my line and my quarterback doing their thing too. So it's a team effort."
The Wildcats continued to fire on all cylinders. Quarterback Chris
Tewhill, who was starting in place of Nate Kristoff who was out with an infection in his knee, capped off 70-yard drive with a one-yard QB sneak, making it 16-0. Then on the Bulldogs' next play, Silveira picked off Diego Camarillo and took it 40 yards to the house.
Mason Brown burst a seem for a 28-yard touchdown run and later Adams did the same, scoring on a 44-yard sprint, making it 37-0 at the half.
"It was a good effort on all levels, the starters got in there and did their jobs early so the backups could get some time. It was really good to see the backups carry the ball and everyone get a chance to play," Brown said.
Still their was little quit in the injury-riddled Bulldogs, who kept MC out of the end zone in the second half.
"It's my last game," said San Rafael left-tackle Eddy Gramajo, who sprinted out of every huddle. "I just wanted to set an example for the younger guys, for next year, to keep my leadership going and just give them an example of how to lead next season."
