OJI BECOMES OKAYAMA PAPER'S TOP SHAREHOLDER
OKAYF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Japan's Oji Paper Co. (TSE:3861)
said Tuesday that it acquired a 32.4 per cent stake in Okayama
Paper Industries Co. (TSE:3892) for 1.36 billion yen (US$15.1
million), becoming the top stockholder of the midtier
containerboard manufacturer.
Oji expects the move to help it strengthen its
containerboard business in the western Japanese region of
Chugoku. Subsidiary Oji Paperboard Co. leads the domestic
market for the product but has no factories in the region.
Okayama Paper ranks 14th in containerboard production
capacity in Japan, with sales of 8.9 billion yen for the year
ended May 31.
Oji purchased a 19.7 per cent stake from Hayashibara Co. and
a 12.7 per cent interest from a real estate management firm in
the Hayashibara group.
